Blouch Turbo
Twin Turbo '71 Dodge Challenger
The Challenger project is basically complete and the results have exceeded project goals. The little 321 CI Mopar small block pumps out 745 HP and 782 lb-ft of torque at only 18.8 PSI boost and 5000 RPM. At the track, the 3600 lb car with driver has no problem with 10 second passes and trap speeds in excess of 130 MPH. On the street, grocery getting is a breeze since the 8.5:1 engine and turbo cam have very mild street manners (Bob's wife Kelly actually drove the car on the street for several hours before we swapped to drag tires and went racing - no change in calibration needed for street to strip.

The beautiful fabrication work of Mike Malin, Phil Auman and Josh Hains continues to turn heads as the car was singled out for a photo shoot at Chryslers at Carlisle and later graced the cover of the June 2009 edition of Mopar Action magazine.

Lessons learned along the way were numerous as the turbocharged torque and horsepower rippled through the chassis. Transmission trouble, broken axle, brake and suspension upgrades all needed to be addressed in order to bring the project to completion. Special thanks to Barry Aurand, Tim and Rod at HP Engines for their engine expertise, Marshall at Campbell Enterprises for his suspension expertise, A&A Transmissions for their quality Torqueflite 727 parts, and last but not least, Kevin Van Noy at CSU Carbs for his blow-thru carb expertise. The blow-thru carb was the bain of this project and Kevin's expertise and willingness to help brought the whole project together. If you are considering a blow-thru carb project, I would highly recommend contacting Kevin at (909) 851-6955.
